Just got my new Panasonic 42" 7UY ED plasma hooked up. Visual Apex was very helpful and shipped right away. Here are a few pics of the setup, snakes were on DiscoveryHD. Speakers are in-ceiling and we are really happy. Just thought I would share our excitement.

Thanks for the kind comments!

JR: In the second pic, you can see an in-ceiling speaker as the center channel just to the right of the can light. It's probably not ideal, but it's hard to argue with the looks plus they were already there when I bought the house.

tmila and JR: I thought the pics looked pretty good too. But I did absolutely nothing special. Calibrated using "Steaming Rat" (thanks BTW), turned on DiscoveryHD, took pics at night with flash on (you can see the flash in the reflection). I used a Sony 5.0 MP camera and then resized the pics to 640 which I think is max resolution allowed here.

There is definitely something impressive about a snakes head that is larger than my own and displayed in high def! It creeped my wife out, she said not to post that picture. I thought it looked great.

Thanks everyone, I couldn't have done it without you!

Ah, I see the speaker now, I didn't even notice it, the snake looked so good that my eyes were drawn straight to the tv. ;)

Nice work with your pictures, although the images on my unit look fantastic, whenever I try to take a pic they come out blurry and washed out. I have a feeling I'm just not very good at taking pictures. :)

Aaawww... off topic, but I'm actually using a Sony DSC-F717, which I'm guessing (I really don't know much about cameras) is pretty good. Maybe we should start a "How to take pictures of your plasma/lcd" thread. :D

That's horrible!
:D

You can notice the screen door effect on that picture. I took it about 3 feet from the display :)

I was just about to mention the screen door effect.

On the tip of his nose and right side of his face (around the eyes and cheek).

Yup, you won't see it at 7+ feet with DVD source and 10+ feet SDTV source.

My HD shot was taken at about the same distance, 3 feet, and there isn't any screen door effect.

It is tough to take pictures of your plasma. I didn't try using a flash, but when I tried to take pictures at night they were all blown-out and blurry. The kind of lenses in compact digital cameras just can't get enough light under those conditions. I had more success taking pictures during the day.
