Thanks for the Pics. The Sharp appears to have the edge both in sharpness and contrast and overall punch but the Piano is not far behind. If you can live without HDTV the piano is a great value.

Whoever did this review, might have not done justice with the Piano.

First of all, we don't know what was the screen size, and what was the distance that the pictures were taken from. As you know, the Piano is only 848x600 capable, so taking pictures too close will surely look less sharp in comaparison to the Sanyo (you can see the difference in sharpness very well at the sinking titanic picture).

Second, all of the Piano pictures seem to be vertically stretched, and not in the correct aspect ratio as the Sanyo's.

Third, If you look at the old lady picture, you can certainly see the blue'ish overall impression it has. Now, as I've been told by "chappie" here: http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/Forum10/HTML/008363.html

the Piano offers extensive control over the colors, so it might be that the reviewer just didn't do a good job calibrating it.

Yes, the Sanyo looks MUCH better, but this is NOT a fair comparison.

IMO, at greater than 2:1 ratio between screen size and viewing distance, and when both pj's calibrated correctly, the difference will be much smaller.

btw,

Black levels seem to be very good for both pj's.

edit: every time you see "Sanyo", read "Sharp".

Hi guys, you might find it interesting that the reviewer actualy says in the conclusion section that the Piano is the better option for screens up to 80 inches, but after that the Sharp is better. I havent seen them side by side, but in separate viewing I would say that this is true for a cost/performance basis, but even at smaller screen sizes I preferred the crispness of hte sharp image...... but at twice the cost it should be.

Adam,

Do you know what the cost of the Sharp will be in Japan? I might be there on business next year.

Thanks

Jones, why are you talking about Sanyo in your post? You do mean Sharp right? http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

The 9000 looks very nice indeed, I can't wait to see one in person.

Plus missed the boat with the Piano as far as not supporting HD.

I think this will limit its sales and keep it from reaching the mass market.

Price here .... and anywhere in japan for that matter because Plus are not allowing discounting) is Yen29800 before tax (5% sales tax here) (I think the exchange rate is about 120 at the moment).

Also if you look at their online site ( http://piano.plus-vision.com/jp/shop/index.htm ) you can even see the new tilt stand that they are going to introduce probably in September (HINT: you have to click on the first rollover button a the bottom of the page to get to the page which shows the tilt stand).

Hello Li On,

not sure whether I like to learn how to see anding/posterization/feathering/dithering/matrix problem. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

With my tight buget, I think LT150 is still good choice but can't judge without watching it.

will be very happy if I can join you guys for scout but quite worry about upgrading standard of my eyes once I learn and watch too much goodies from you. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks for your offer and hope see ya soon.
