Picture grain on the 5000

I am actually hooked up to my Samsung DLP via HDMI and watching at 720p. I am sitting about 14 feet away and I still see grain on mostly blu-ray titles.

Curse of the black pearl which is the best looking BD has considerable noise. Is this normal?

I have the same experience with BR titles. Better get used to it I guess.

See this thread:

I hate to say it, but I yet have to see a blu ray picture in par with HD DVD.
I havent seen any difference between the two. Remember its not the format, but usually the transfer\\master that is the cause of most of the picture complaints. What Blu-rays are you watching, you might be watching movies that are "flawed".
Make sure that under Setting, HDMI that sharpness

is turned OFF, this will help, with some of the Grain

Bob
Im in the same boat. I have the PS3 and the Toshiba HD-A1. I put in Planet Earth on Blu-ray and HD DVD. The Blu-Ray is noticibly grainier than the HD DVD, actually I would describe it as noise and not grain. I have tried every setting on the PS3. I know they are the same encodes, so It has to be something with the player. I am consistently blown away by the picture quality of my HD DVD's, but consistantly disapointed in my blu-rays. I am displaying them at 720p on a Panasonic PT-AE900U with a 110 inch screen.
