Picture is now twice the size!

716 Views 12 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  janbanan24
Been having problems with my AmPro 4000D since the beginning! (Maybe that's why it was so cheap?)

But lately I've been having HVPS restarts and shutdowns, sometimes the pic has been "zooming" in and out so the picture has altered size about 10%

...and so it happened today: The picture size just went crazy! (No values changed on the remote!) But the pic is now very dim and about 100% bigger than before! It is well beyond the edges of the tubes!

HELP please!

NOT good!

Don't run it!

The yokes are getting WAY too much voltage, and given time, they WILL burn

out.

I'm no AmPro expert, but I think you're due for a new power supply.

Shoot me a PM, please. I'll respond with my email address. Respond to

that email address and list what you need. Photos of the power supply

and a part number would be helpful. I've got crates and crates of AmPro

parts that I'm trying to go through, inventory, and move on to people who

need the stuff.

Maybe your quadrupler is defective and your HV is only half or 3/4 of the normal value.

Then the electrons travel slower and the yokes can influence their direction longer and so your pic size increases...

I don't know that much CRT theory, but I do know some electronics in general; I'd be willing to bet that the electron speed isn't variable.
What would you bet?

CJ almost lost his paycheck to me if he had had one :)

...but I have recently chnged HVPS and also all the caps in the "LVPS"????

Maybe I should also tell you tat the pic zooms in and out about 10% allso now when it is very big! The pic is never "still"!

I'm with RoBro on that. Go ahead, Larry, let's bet.

Sounds like severe blooming due to low High voltage. The quadruplers and/or splitters do go bad.

Marc
Whell Thanks everybody for taking interest in the thread, eaven if it is only to make money! :( :D :D :D

"severe blooming due to low High voltage" does that also explain why the pic is VERY dim, when it is this big?

Could I have a contact-problem somewhere? ...other than the HV cables?

Maybe I should try to switch back to my old HVPS? ...it gives bad focus but not "severe blooming due to low High voltage "

Janne:confused:

Off topic: Hey Larry! You don't work at Zip-products, do ya'? I'm ordering Corvette parts from them today! (Richmond VA)

Yes, low brightness is a side effect of low high voltage. Try your old supply as a test. If it continues, look at the splitter, etc.

Marc
I always tell the person to look at what was messed with last. Most times that is where the problem is. I would check the caps that you installed.

Deron.
Hmm, the PJ has been "resting" for a couple of weeks now, and when I turned it on today it worked again!

Where is the quadrupler? Is it one of the boards?

I will check the caps in the LVPS for any obvious faults, and clean and re-connect all HV-connectors. (don't have splitter)

Thanks guys! I'll be back! :)
Anyone?
It also seems as if the PJ has been moved forward! (It has NOT!)

...since I now have to push the "size" to near "max" to fill the screen! Maby that makes me drive something to hard so then the picture eventually "collapses" into this huge, dim picture?

But then the question would be: Why has the pic become smaller to begin with?

Have tried tapping on the Quad-board but that did not produce any "pic-zooming", or anything else for that matter!
