I have a Hitachi 51SWX20B Rear projection HDTV monitor w/DVI in. A friend brought his HTPC over to try out on it. We used the DVI connection and powerstrip to get the res close to fitting. The text resolution while in PC mode looked horrible. We had to use this application called MAGNIFIER to look around the screen - however, HD content looked great. We were also limited to playing games in 640x480 unless in windowed mode.

Can someone give it to me in a nutshell?

In a nutshell... "somthin' aint right."

For anyone to venture even a guess you're going to have to give a lot more details like HTPC specs, video card, drivers used and the like...

Yah, that's not right. I can read the text on my 57" sony RPTV in 1776x1000i resolution from 8 feet away without much trouble, and my eyesight sucks. :D

I believe the Hitachi is one of the HDTVs that scales every input at whatever resolution to 1080i for display. Thus for best picture quality it should be driven by a HTPC that drives the set using a 1080i video mode, to avoid invoking the internal scaler.

You'll need a video board capable of 1080i, and if 16:9 1080i is not pre-defined, you'll have to define it via the Powerstrip program.

GeForce 6800 is the video card. Yeah, I "think" we were running a 1080i video mode because all of the movies and everything looked great, crystal clear. My friend said that its just that the resolution is so high that it makes the font too small to read clearly. Is this as good as it gets?
