I did lots of reading earlier this year and narrowed my decision down to a Denon 3803 or Pioneer 45tx. Decided on a 45tx in June, but had to wait for some extra cash. Come back reading to see nobody is selling them : (

Did some local research and found a floor model that the owner will sell me for $800 (with 2 year warranty). Anyone know of a better deal still available on this receiver? Maybe I should look into the Denon again....

A little about me:

Wanting to replace my Sony from ~1994. Probably about 60% audio (CD/DVD/DAT) vs 40% HT use at this point. Currently tinkering with a HTPC. Haven't upgraded the speakers yet, have Infinity speakers from Fall 1995 that were about $400 each. Don't know the model numbers, got them off the floor as well. Three mids and 1 tweeter in each speaker. I know, that probably doesn't help at all. Will be adding surround and subwoofer eventually.

Anyway, just looking for some advice. I am strongly considering picking up the 45tx.

Thanks in advance to anyone who bothers to read/reply to my ramblings. Also thanks for all the great stuff on this forum!

ps - I'm not trying to start another Denon/Pioneer debate : )

I dont think that is a good price for the 45 tx - you can get it's replacement model brand new for about that price if you look around (I just ordered mine today). The only difference is the new model does not appear to have as nice of a remote.

Look around for the Pioneer Elite VSX-53tx.

Thanks Gerry, I'll keep it in mind. I know I will pay a little more through a local hifi shop, but didn't think the price sounded that great for a floor model.

I paid well over that for my 45tx, and I wouldn't think of upgrading it at this time. I have been through several receivers, and this is by far my favorite. I am not a "brand junkie" and have never owned two receivers from the same company. However, when I auditioned this last time....I brought yamaha, hk, denon, and marantz into the house. It was an easy choice to keep the 45tx.

The 45TX is awesome. But the $800 price tag is a little steep considering it has already been replaced, as mentioned above. It's well worth the price, but I'm sure you can find a better deal elsewhere. Or bargain?

I've bought floor models in the past, but they have always been in mint condition. It's not like you'll find Elites in a CC or BB where everyone is allowed to do what they will to a floor model without a sales person nearby. $800 at a B&M sounds right for a discontinued 45tx, after all the store likely sold it a couple months ago for $1000. But since it's a floor model I would only consider it if it's been pampered at the store...no blemishes etc. Otherwise see what price the store is offering the 53tx for. For the same price I would choose the 45tx, both being NEW. Having equipment new in the box is always comforting, but then again if you have the warranty I suppose it doesn't matter to a lot of people.
