If you live in Toronto - all I can say is check one of the four authorized retailers in the GTA. I've seen it at Audio Excellence Yorkville, Regency Audio (Markharm). Pioneer is coming out with a universal DV59Ai which there are threads on - I seen the spec sheets and on paper it looks very impressive - this is what caught my attention:
14bit video DACs.
720P or 1080i upscaled from 480P
Cost is TBA but will most likely go around the price of what the 47AI sells for now. I'll probably be picking this up continuing my merry go around of DVD Players in the past two years: Pioneer DV-37, Koss cheapo one, RP-82, Denon 1600, XP-30, Pioneer 563 and ??? |
OK, now I'm
really confused. Are you talking about the as-yet-unannounced DV-59Ai, or something else called a DV-50? And since (in the quote above) you compared it price-wise to the 47Ai, which has an MSRP of US$1200: I don't find that to be just "a few bucks more" than the 563, with an MSRP of US$250. Are Universal players as out of whack as prescription drug prices in the US, or were you confusing the 563 (the model originally under discussion) with something else?
And apologies in advance, but I find it hard to believe that there's something called a Pioneer Elite DV-50 with "upgraded electronics", having all the capabilities of the 563, that's only marginally more expensive than the 563,
and it's sitting on a Toronto dealer's shelf, with absolutely
NO buzz about it on any of the home theater/audiophile web sites . . .
I don't live in Toronto, unfortunately; I hear it's a nice place. And I honestly don't mean to be nitpicky and grill you on the details, but I've got about 28 days left to return my DV-563A
