Hiya,

I am in a situation where i can get the pioneer in canada still... which is of no surprise... i am look at hte 60"

I have spent a good week or two on reading the various threads on the pdp6020 the elite the elite sig and the krp 600ms.

I have sourced out some good deals on both and now i am having a hard time deciding...

I know the krp uses the elite glass and people have mentioned a lot of +'s on this monitor. I particularly do not need the atsc tuner and/or speakers or anything so the krp600 seems like a good deal to me.

BUT having said that i can get the 6020 for 500-700 less. I am unable to see the krp on display anywhere in toronto and i have seen the 6020 on display so having side by side is impossibility and at the same time.

So i am trying to get some honest opinoins on which one should i be going for? is the krp 700 bucks better looking than the 6020?

Is the 6020 the one i should be going for?

I would appreciate any input on this.

thanks

edit- Just as a comparo i did do the panasonic vs samsung the 850 model and the g15 i found the samsung to look a bit artificial in colour but the colours looked better the panasonic handled the black levels infinitely better ... the pioneer was almost the perfect balance between naturality of colour and black level - ness. - edit

You said that you don't need the tuner or speakers but do you need/want the stand?

Also, from a resale standpoint the 6020 would be better. 5 years down the road you may want to sell to a third party who is more likely to need/want a complete TV.

$500-$700 could purchase a nice extended service plan/warranty as well getting you to that 5 years worry free no problem. If you don't want that then you could spend the $500-$700 on a professional calibration. Not to mention you could sell the stand/speakers as new if you leave them unopened and possibly make another $300-$500.

If you're satisfied with the already superior picture quality of the 6020 and are not interested in perfection from the ISF modes the 6020 may be the way to go.

Just something to think about.

Only you can decide if the monetary difference is acceptable, but in regards to the PQ, the 600M is much better, IMO.

I would agree.

While the 6020 is definitly no slouch, The 600M will give you many more settings.

Pioneer (in all thier wisdom) decided to remove a very large amount of settings from the 5020/6020.

With the 600M now being able to have ISF modes activated, Its a no-brainer IMO.

thanks for the input.

I was hoping to see the 600m on display but no one is having one and that makes it harder for me to see the difference.

At the same time i think i got my answer that 600m has better picture on it and it all boils down to if im going to spend 500-700 more for the better pq or not.

On another note... The PC input... i looked at manual of both tvs... the 600m will do 1920x1080 from pc and beyond.

6020 does the same resolution or are there any limitations to it? Did not find a pc resolution chart on the manual.

One last question:

if i get the 6020 pro callibrated vs 600m pro callibrated would they yield sam/similar quality or 600m would still be better quality than the 6020?

if you get the ISFccc patch from Turbe and you use a good calibrator then the 600M should give you a slightly better overall pq then the 6020. a well calibrated 6020 would be an excellent choice too and you would never know without both being side by side to compare and pick over the smallest differences. you really cant go wrong with either model. your money your choice. just get one before they are gone.

Here are the picks in the PIONEER 60" LINEUP:

#1* would be the 151. Overall performance and user control as well as ISF programability

#1* would be the 141 overall performance ,user control ,ISF programability. NO SPEAKERS , or TUNER

#2 Would be the 600M If you don't need the speakers and tuner and get the ISF patch. EXCELLENT PQ like the 141 or 151

#3 would be the 6020. This would be a cost saving choice as it doesn't offer much user controls and is not ISF programable. Albeit at this point in time, i don't know if the cost savings between the 600M and 6020 would be that great.

All 4 are great pieces of technology. You just have to decide on your needs and available $$$$$$

*I consider the 141 & 151 equal in quality so they are both #1

My dilema comes mostly as i am able to get 6020 cheaper than the 600m close to 500-700 bucks.

I saw pioneer easily shine compared to samsung and pannasonic...

so initially decided on the 600M until i hit the tweaking threads so was inquiring if a calibrated 6020 would be as good as the 600m or not...

I mean it boils down to saving half a K here with 13% tax on top its close to 600-800.

Hey Porksoda,

I'm from Montreal and actually can't any of these easily, not to mention the prices have been insane around here for them.

Can you PM me where you found them in Toronto along with the prices you got since i wouldn't mind picking one up from there should it be really worth it.

I am also looking for a 60" and stuck between the 151 and 600M models..don't know which to chose any why

yes. if pioneer (the service tech/center that would be involved trying to repair it if needed) knew it was applied they could void your warranty.but hopefully you would never need the warranty like the vast majority of owners who never use it.

yes you would need to buy it, it is not freeware.

Porksoda, I'm in the exact same situation as you are. 6020 or the 600M? Prices up here in Toronto (Canada) are no where near as good as those in the U.S.

Can you PM me with who your sourcing (and pricing) your prospective purchase from? Are you going to import from the U.S.? It's looking

really tempting, especially with the Canadian dollar rising right now.

Hey Porksoda, I'm also looking for the KRP models and Kuros in Toronto but the KRP are nowhere to be found and no pricing available even on the Pioneer Canada website. As for the Kuro, seems like only the 6020 is available in big box stores at outrageous prices.

Is it possible to PM me where you found them? I've looked into the buy US, but i really don't know if it will be warrantied by Pioneer Canada.

Yes, sure, but a few TVs with the patch will fail, just like the non-patched TVs, and if it were to have no warranty, those purchasers would not be happy. The patch is reversible, but the question no one seems to know for sure, is if the TVs logs the dates and nature of changes to the firmware(?) of the TV.
