I have a Pioneer 84Txsi that I am using as my processor for my home theater.

I have 4 sources hooked up via HDMI. PS3, Sony BDP-S1(blu ray), Toshiba HD-D1 (HD Dvd) and a Directv HD DVR. Pioneer hooked up via 50ft monoprice HDMI cable to a Sony "Pearl" projector.

It seems to pass the signals fine. Even 1080p but occasionally it will get "stuck". The screen will show the picture fine on the top half but the bottom half will flicker and have snow. If you turn the receiver off it will usually correct itself.

I assumed it was because of the length of my HDMI cable to my projector but I just installed another Pioneer 84 at a friends house and he is getting the same picture problem. But the kicker is we only used two 6 foot cables. That should be well within spec.

Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced this? Has anyone talked to tech support?

Thanks

I've had the problem w/ my 82TXs using a 12ft run from receiver to projector. I haven't yet decided what to do... I'd like to exchange it for a Denon 2807 but they only have open-box and they're not too deeply discounted. Supposedly there's supposed to be a walk-in firmware upgrade available to fix this and the -10db LPCM HDMI LFE problem, though I've not heard that from any official sources, just in the long 84TXsi and 82TXs threads.

I have never heard of this problem. It sounds like you are hooking it up wrong. See the 84 thread for more information. I have mine hooked up with a 15 foot cable. All is well. A 50 foot cable should have an equalizer though...

I originally hooked mine up w/ 2 6ft cables and an equalizer (since that's what I had lying around) and still had the problem. It's not an issue of incorrect hookup. I don't know if all units have it or if it's certain combinations of receivers and displays. I'm going to exchange mine for another one this weekend and see if that helps. If not I'm just going to hope the firmware update makes it out in the next few weeks or try an open-box Denon 2807.

Thanks for the info. I know it is hooked up correctly. I don't really know how you could hook it up wrong if you have it ran via HDMI.

I thought it might have been the length of the cables but as I stated the run tonight was 6ft from an HD DVD player and 6ft to the TV. That should be no problem.

What is this firmware upgrade?

I read in the 84TXsi and 82TXs that there's supposed to be a walk-in firmware upgrade available from authorized service center. It's supposed to address this problem as well as the issue where LPCM tracks over HDMI playback the LFE (.1) channel -10db below the correct level. I haven't hear anything official but I'm still hopeful.

I couldn't find that official 84txsi thread. Anyone know where it is?

I will email **************** and see if they have any ideas.

I also have the 84txsi and i'm using a 50' hdmi cable to my optoma H31. Some times when you switch devices and their not all set at same resoultion it will lock up. Are you running the (pure) bypass mode or are you upconverting using the 84? If your using the 84 to convert different resoultions when switching it will also lock up. I have to turn off receiver or device and turn back on to sync.

I thought I was running in pure mode. I will double check. I do not have anything in there that needs to be upconverted. Everything is 1080i or 1080p.

If I turn off the receiver it usually clears up the problem. It is just not "cool" to have friends over and have to turn the receiver off the to "fix" it.

Just got off of the phone with Pioneer.

Check your HDMI firmware. To do this...

Press and hold standard surround sound button

Power on the receiver with the front power button.

the 2nd number should be the HDMI firware.

Original is 1.004

New is 1.005

You still have to get the firmware from an authorized center. I will be contacting mine tomorrow.

i'm not sure which firmware version i have, but i run hdmi and component in and hmdi out with no problems. HD-A1, WII, Xbox, Bravo D1, Moto 6412 @ 480i, 480P and 1080i and i've never experienced this problem.

as far as i know, the lfe fix is still "in the works". there has been no official release date, or any confirming info from pioneer, other than they're working on it. i was told that if you register online, they'll email you when the fix is available.

It appears my June build was H 1.002 so it is older than any of the firmware that the tech talked about.

I will work on getting a disc.

They also talked about a HDMI video quality upgrade that involves a new capacitor? Anyone done this???

No, there is no disc. The firmware is not user upgradable.

You will need to arrange to take it to a Pioneer service center for the upgrade.

How do they install the firmware if it isn't "user upgradable"?

Don't even start pretending that you don't know. Some of us here know that you do!

Dude, that's too funny!
