Pioneer DV-383 PAL DVD on NTSC TV?

There are several stores that list this unit as capable of playing PAL DVDs on NTSC TV but both BH and J&R just say you can play PAL on PAL TV and NTSC on NTSC TV. Is it because there are more than one type of this unit, one with a built-in PAL-NTSC conversion and other without it? Anybody using the DV-383 to play European DVDs on NTSC TV? Thanks
