I use an NEC 3520A but find the read speed on Double Layer DVD+Rs with HDTV Transport Streams on them is too slow to play smoothly. I seem to get about 2.4x read. The speed seems to be OK for playing WMV9 (converted from TS).

I can't find actual read speeds for the new DVR-110D with Double Layer. Anyone have actual figures yet? Also would read speed be dependant on the speed the Double Layer DVD+R was written at?

For 1080i .ts streams, you need a 16x reader to get stutter-free playback.

You need the rip-lock removed for that drive (have you?) More info here .

Yes, riplock is removed. Seems to be that it will only read at the speed it was written. I may just get the Pioneer anyway, nobody seems to be doing this test on it.
