i saw this at samsclub for $289.00. anybody know anything about it?

i have the non hd ilo, but am thinking about this Pioneer DVR-RT500.

I spotted this DVD/VHS recorder at Sam's Club this morning for $219.87.


I'm a big fan of Pioneer's 420/520s and curious if anyone has experience with this machine. My aunt expressed interest last night in getting a DVD/VHS combo recorder.

I continue to use the Panasonic and, for ease of use and versatility, would recommend it over the Pioneer. It is now available at Sam's and the price has dropped twice (there) since it hit their store.

The Pioneer DVR-RT500 is made by Orion in Thailand for Pioneer. Orion is the maker of the low-cost Broksonic, Durabrand, some Insignia, Memorex, Orion, and Sansui brands.

My friend bought a Panasonic DVD/VCR player and it obviously wasn't made by Panasonic. Menus, functions, and quality all suck compared to a regular Panasonic DVD Player. I warned him not to buy an all in one unit as I've made other recommendations to him that he's never listened to. So now he has garbage as with his other gear. A note, he called me yesterday with a problem with his gear and what he should do. I told him to call the manufacturer! I'm done wasting my breath on him.

They have the DVR-RT500 on e-bay offered by Pioneer refurb shop at a buy it now price of $155 I think it has a 30 day warranty. What I have read about this is it is one of the better all in 1.

Yeah, I saw this Pioneer model in Sam's Club the other day. It is UGLY. And I immediately recognized it as a clone of the Sansui VRDVD4005 that Sears sells (as waltchan has confirmed).


I can't believe Pioneer would put their name on it. It looks like something from the early 90's. Hideous!

The Sansui looks like a polished work of art in comparison.

Maybe the recorder units are, but definitely not the player/VCR units. It had none of the Panasonic traits, looked and felt like a cheap piece of Chinese crap.

All Panasonic DVD/VCR combos, except the PV-D734S and PV-D744S, are made by Panasonic. The Panasonic PV-D734S and PV-D744S were made by Orion (Sansui).
