The value of an electronic device such as a Laserdisc Player is something nobody knows in fact i think.

I ask because i have an almost unused Pioneer HLD-X9 and i am wondering if i should keep it or sell it.

Any opinions if this player is going to raise it's value in the future?

a seller from japan sells hld-x9s regularly on fleebay. I see 1 or 2 put on auction for $1825.99-1999.99 + shipping(about $250-300) for a few days then they disappear. I don't know if they sell or they get re-listed. The seller either uses the same pictures or re-lists the same items. The same seller used to list cld-s9 for $650+$170 shipping but thats not been listed again for a while now so I assume that one is sold.

i dont know if this is any help but I have been watching the LD market for the last 15-16 months here and on fleebay sometimes audiogon I have not seen anything sold for any close to their retail except one CDL-S9 went for either $1200 or 1600 (cant remember well) but it was brandnew in box with a box of spare parts and it was in CA.

If you still watch LDs every now and then and dont want to let it go for much less than what you paid. I would say keep it. But if you dont care about the format much anymore and around $1600-2000 sounds good to you 90% of chance it will bring around that much on fleebay or here.

HLD-X0 on the other hand is still hunted by collectors but I doubt that one would sell for 4-5k as they say. yahoo auctions japan has a few listed every now and then for around $2000-2600 with remote, manual.

Hey

For 1600 USD or even 2000 USD i wouldn't sell an X9 that i have as new.

In my opinion wait a couple more years....and sell it to a real collector.

Of course people can say.....oh it's Laserdisc, now it's cheap. They just want to get it cheap that's all. For some people a used unit (even with 500 hours) they don't care.

They only care when the player starts to need parts...LOOOOL

And in my opinion....with today's days video processing i think it's not worth to invest in a single side Laserdisc Player such as the HLD X0.

First because it's much more expensive, has a much higher cost when need repair, and that would justify maybe 10 years ago when the video processing was very expensing (like the Faroudja scalers that used to cost $15000 USD and more....).

Hi

What i'm saying is that you can get a Pioneer HLD X9 for much lees than an X0 (well, little less let's say)...

And if you have a video processor, like the Faroudja that you can get cheap in today's days you get a better picture than the X0 of course.

Come on, the X0 has around 10% picture improvement? Not more i believe...

And besides when you are watching a CAV movie even you have the X0 you are going to watch it in the X9.

Hi,

I remember you used to have a Mcintosh MLD 7020 and now you do HLD-X9. Could you compare the picture quality on both? (Please explain what kind of displays you used)

I have an LCD now but soon I will move the LD player to main room where the Pioneer Plasma is(141fd monitor)

thanks

Which is best all comes down to personnel preference. I prefer a smoother background, more film-like. So with my Pioneer TV's I have preferred the CLD-97 or MLD-7020 (same player inside) over the HLD-X9 I used to own. The X9 can give you a sharper picture but at the same time it depends on DNR to lower the noise so it has the digitized look. I sold my X9 and am using a CLD-97.

If you don't mind the digitized look the X9 is for you. Looks more like the DVD digitized look.

If you like the analog look the 97 or 7020 are the best dual sided players and the LD-S2 is the best single sided player. I have not seen the X0 yet but have been told its natural noise levels are lower than the S2.

If you look inside the players you see internal shielding between boards in the LD-S2, the CLD-97 has separation between the digital and log boards but not all the internal shielding in the S2. The X9 has a little shielding but puts the digital and analog boards next to each other. Internally you can see where Pioneer stayed with a concept of using DNR with newer players. Probably due to the dollar value change in the early 1990's.

They are all very good players. You just need to decide the look you prefer and enjoy.

Hi

That's true, i had the Mcintosh MLD-7020.

Right now i only use Pioneer models, LD-S2 like Kurtis said one of the best, X0 and X9.

Honestly i prefer the LD-S2 over the (CLD97/MLD7020), but it's my opinion.

You see, it's like Kurtis said some models are more enjoyable to some people than others, it's about your personal taste.

But i prefer the X9 to the CLD97/MLD7020 and the X0 is the best without doubt.

When we are talking about this levels of quality there is not much to say.

For me is enough, i watch 1 Laserdisc from 3 in 3 months....LOOOL

I have no time to watch movies at all. I wish i had more.

Here's my grading:

1- X0

2- X9

3- LD-S2

Cheers

Hi cararte, RMSMT,

You both live in Portugal ''I think?''

You both write similar ''I think''

Members are watching.....do not treat us as fools because we can seeeeeee

How are you both then? ''GOLLAM or is this SMEAGAL?''

Just joking
but on a serious note ''THE MEMBERS HERE ARE NO FOOLS YOU KNOW''

Hope life is treating you well and that you are taking good care of yourself.

Sincerest Regards

Hey look: I love the LD format (hardware Software+Muse,) I have always done my home work accross the board with my LD purchases. Having 9 players, of which 7 are brand new, but who is counting......''WORKED DAMN HARD TO GET THESE''.......I appreciate all those that have given good advice ''good players bad players''....picture quality and so on..........Genuine THANK YOU.....Have an HLD X0 reserved and not at all bothered about turning the disc's, and come to mention it am not bothered about how much this cost's......I have an average job, average honest and genuine guy, will work hard and sacrifice other things to get this player ect.........Hope you are all well....and Sincerely enjoy the fruits of your hard earned labours......enjoy your movies and bring out the best in all of your systems....we all deserve this.

Oh! and before I forget......The prices of the HLD X0 / X9 will climb, but nobody will purchase them at the stupid prices....that some greedy hopefuls demand....Use them that's what I say! Use these players and stop hoarding them.

They were built to be used......play them, and take great care of them, because they cost a great deal.

I have been noticing a hype in the rare Japanese titles and guess what!...they are not selling...100's, 500's and some as high as 750approx dollars. I have a number of titles reserved, of which will take time, as the job front is shaky....these quite frankly cost the earth, but I want these, not many people left....that will pay these prices...''FOR THE RARE ONES THAT IS''............One seller is trusted by myself because he has proven himself to be trusted, but have come accross some crafty individuals......a very long story, but they didn't fool me at all.

Man get a hype, and a life also.

are you refering to me or electrico?

I was just curious that's why I asked. Your typos and the words you chose to explain stuff are very similar. And many cases you both write to same topics(all LD topics). I read carartes discussions about LDs and LD players and enjoy them. It was quite difficult not to notice how your writings were that similar. If you are the same person or not, I did not try to offend you. If I did , I apoligize.

I am from Massachusetts btw.

Hi Underman

No, no it was not to you. It was to electrico.

I don't offend anyone here, and the purpose of this forum is to discuss things related to home theatre that enjoy members, but some people here seem to take it to other ways.

I hope this man gets a life...i am sorry for him.
