I had a guy that is selling a Pioneer Kuro PDP-5020 on craigslist for $1,300 or I can get a Samsung PN51F8500 for $800.00!

Decisions, Decisions… I have always wanted to have a Pioneer Kuro PDP-5020 BUT I'm more persuaded by the Samsung one as I already have one and want another one for the other bedroom…

$1300 is too high for the 5020 I just picked up a pioneer pro 110 elite $150 it works great.I would probably go with the Samsung

The Pioneer at most is only worth what you can get the 51F8500 for. $1300 is way too much. I'd also go with the Samsung. And I own both. My Kuro has red tint after 10k hours and you have to jump through quite a few hoops to calibrate the grayscale. The F8500 is much easier to tweak and it's black levels are black enough.

I owned the 5020 and now own the 64F8500. Get the F8500. The blacks are slightly better on the 5020, but the overall color accuracy and bright screen are better with the F8500. My 5020 developed the dreaded red tint, and after hours of working via the SM, I was able to correct it, but not worth the hassle for $1300 if it develops. Also, you can do a full 10 point calibration on the F8500, whereas you can't on the 5020.

Hi Azcatfan15,
I am squeezing in your topic.
I am also considering buying the 51F8500 but in Europe the prices don't seem to be that low. Someone is selling the 51 inches version for 1300 euros. His base price was 1500 euros
 I found it a bit expensive.
What do you guys think!?
Go or no go?
Many thanks.

I owned a 5010 (admittedly one generation earlier than 5020), and I was never able to properly calibrate the white level (contrast) using the consumer-accessible adjustments (not the service menu). It simply would not get bright enough.

I did like that TV, used it for 6 years, but I like the 8500 more.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I told the seller of the Pioneer Kuro to stop smoking the ganja. lol

I think I will make a run at the Samsung F8500 that is still at the Pawn shop for more than 3 months! lol ;)

Check the hours. With the large remote, with tv on, hit Mute, 7 3 7, enter. MRT=hours. Power off to get out of that menu.

That's not many hours at all. A 2013 panel is a good panel. There have been some issues with 2014 panels, mainly Y board issues.
I hear you… it's been at the Pawn Shop since 3 months ago… hopefully they lower their asking price a little more since I have been the only one that mainly goes in there to ask how much they want for it? lol

:)
