I have my mind made up on buying a plasma tv in the very near future. Have been shopping around, and taking much of the info I read here into account.

But does anyone have any input on the Pioneer PDP503CMX 50-IN. HDTV PLASMA DISPLAY .

I have found this set for $3,700 and am curious about why the price is so low???

Have been looking at the Panasonics very close, 42", but prices are coming down so I may hold off to be able to afford a 50".

Any help is much appreciated.

DB,

Welcome to the list. I too am waiting for the 50"7uy to reach my price point. I too was "awakened" from years of lust but no buy, by the low price of the 503 cmx.

But it turned out to not suit my needs and with the prices of the 7uy dropping every week I shifted loyalty.

Here were my reasons.

1. Lack of inputs compared to 7uy

2. 1280x768 vs 1366 x 768 (Full HD)

3. Lack of deep blacks

4. Lack of internal Native Rate scaler.

But what color.

You have to make a decision for your self but personally this is a major ticket item and despite the urge I decided to wait, save a bit more money and get the 7uy.

Actually, "full" HD is 1920 X 1080, which is not currently available in a 50" plasma. Take a look at the Sharp LC-45GX6U, a 45" LCD panel, if you want to see the full glory of 1080p.
