Pioneer / Polka Audio

Hello everyone. I have been lurking around here trying to get ideas on what type of surround system I should get. Here is what has happened so far.

I went to Sam's and found a Bose 3.2.1 system for $718.00. I decided to get it to see what it sounded like. In my opinion it had great clarity but it just does not have the volume for my 17' x 22' room. I plan to take it back. I did like my old 12 year old Pioneer rack stereo but it is very dated. It has the two huge, two surround and one center speaker and only does Pro Logic. Definitely time for an upgrade.

I have seen many say that Pioneer is still a good quality receiver. Best buy is offering $150.00 off if you buy a package with one Pioneer receiver (the model 1019AH-K is what I am considering), The 5 piece RM75 Polk Audio speaker set and SW10 BLACK 10" 100watt sub woofer. Together that would come close to $950.00. What is your guys opinions on this set up for my room size. I will mainly use this for movies.

Edit: Sorry for the Polka title

It's Polk Audio, not polka

My opinion is those speakers will be too small for your size room. You could go to Newegg and get brand new Polk Monitor 40s for $150/pair, Monitor 30s for $110/pair and a CS1 center for $90. Then get a Polk PSW505 sub for $250. You're still ahead if you have to pay full price for the receiver.

+1 on the Polk Monitors (real speakers compared to the small RM75's) from Newegg.com

google for prices on the Pio 1019, you may do better than BB. Also consider other full HDMI audio and video processing receivers like the Onkyo SR507, Denon 590, Yamaha V565, and if you don't need all the features of the Pio 1019, there is the 819/919 units.
I like Polka. I play polkas on my Polks all the time.

I was up in Northern Minnesota packing for the trip back home, and I put my radio on a local station. So it's early Sunday morning, I am sure I was mildly hungover (given the way those youthful trips used to go down,) and I get this polka station on the radio.

The announcer comes on the air. He's too good to be true. I mean, I am from Minnesota and resent the stereotypes, you know? But he's LIKE that. And he says 'Always remember, polka people are HAPPY people.' I just stood there for a moment shocked. I did not know whether to laugh AT him, or with him. I think I decided to laugh with him.

Speakers don't wear out. Your old speakers are probably better than anything you could buy now without spending thousands of dollars. Buy a new or used AVR to get the new formats and then decide what to do next.

I am part Polish (Mother's side) and heard a lot of Polka music growing up.
