My dad's 520HD started shutting off randomly. If you unplug it for a while and plug it back in, it works for up to 2-3hrs. and as little as 5min.


Anyway, some things i've read on the internets points to a bad power supply unit..


PSU is ~$350.. And if it's not that, even more.


Is it worth it to fix, or should I just tell him to dump it and go with a new set?

Some of these are known to get stressed/cracked solder joints. If you know how to use a screw gun and have decent soldering skills, you can pull the boards and resolder suspect points.
