Hello all,

So here is my thing - I love my Pioneer VSX-1021. Currently have my 1080p video ran through it via HDMI. With that said, I am purchasing a Sony 4K TV. Will that render my 1021 useless? Can it support 4K pass through? Or do I need to buy an all new receiver? I hate to have to buy a brand new receiver if I don't need to.

VSX-1021 doesn't support 4K. You need HDMI 2.0 for that and you Pioneer has ver 1.4a.

What 4k sources do you have?

Just use your avr for audio and if you do find a source that can play 4k then pass it on directly to the tv via hdmi (best scenario a unit with dual output hdmi so one can go to the avr, or it'll need another audio connection to go to the avr).
