So I just got this receiver and its hooked up via HDMI but I cant get the DD or DTS HD to light up on the thing to let me know its using that signal.

All the settings are assigned to what it can do in the PS3 options, but it wont do it.

Anyone with this receiver and a PS3 help me out?

The Ps3 must be set to Bitstream and it must be a Ps3 Slim, If it is an older model the Ps3 will do the decoding and you will get multi channel pcm I believe!

For games it didnt light up either for DD 5.1. And there is no audio option for bitstream during a game.

Which PS3 do you have? If you have an old one set it to PCM. You will NOT see it light up DD or DTS. The PS3 is doing the decoding. If you go into the on screen menu you can see what is being sent to the AVR under one of the options.


If the PS3 says it is sending DDHD or DTS-HD you are getting the best sound.

I have the slim. And I get I can change to bitstream during a BD movie. But for a PS3 game, the same menu doesnt come up. Do I need an optical cable to get 5.1dd for games? I wanted to just use the HDMI for that too.
