Pioneer VSX-919ah-k Adv Auto MCACC problem

3247 Views 11 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Orta
I am having a minor problem with the Adv. Auto MCACC setup on the Pioneer VSX-919ah-k. After the first part of the test is performed (where it goes through each speaker and does the tick-tick-tick-tick thing), my receiver's on screen display comes up with "Check" with two options available. Retry and Continue with Retry set as the default. If there is more information displayed on the TV or monitor, I am unable to view it because in the short term, I am unable to connect the receiver to any monitor. In an effort to see if it was speaker polarity, I crossed the polarity on one of the speakers and then, I got an error on the on screen display that was much more specific. So, I corrected that. I've heard talk that some people say they were asked to turn their subwolfer volume up. So, I tried the test several times with my sub volume at different levels. But no matter what I do, I get stopped after the first part of the test with the options to retry or resume. Other than this, the test will continue if I select continue. Then, it will save the MCACC data and all will appear to be fine. But, I would like to know what the receiver is complaining about so that I can correct something if it needs correcting. Speakers connected include a polk sub and 4 polk bookshelf speakers which all seem to function during the test and during normal playback. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

make sure when you setup the MCACC to make sure it is very quiet... nobody around and in the midle of the night

Everything is quiet when I run the test (otherwise, I would likely get bad positioning data). But still, I get this message that says "Check" on the receiver's on-screen display right after the initial phase of the test runs after the five speakers are ticked a few times and the sub goes wuuush. I get th option to rEtry which will repeat the same portion of the test and thensay check again or I can resume. Can't be the polarity as the message looks clearer when I cross it in one speaker. DoI have a defective unit?
Call pioneer. I doubt it's defective. Or look in the back of the manual where they have troubleshooting.
Is your Sub set in,or,out of Phase? And do you use the LFE input? Or Speaker Level input? And do you run your L/R speakers out from the Sub? Checking and or correcting any of these might fix your problem.
First. Off, thank you for mentioning the sub. I have it connected via LFE. I tried the phase switch in both positions and the test still pauses asking me to check with the options retry or. Continue. With the sub. disconnected, I still get the check prompt.

Maybe you've got your sides and rears reversed?

Why don't you try to connect a monitor to the receiver to see what exactly the receiver is asking you to check?

When I have two subs connected to mine (Elite 92), sometimes MCACC will not continue because it detects my sub volume is too high. Again, it is very useful to connect a monitor when you run MCACC because you can easily verify all your settings. Most of the time, you have to change some settings that MCACC sets automatically. For example, change the fronts to small if your fronts are not large enough. And also examine the room EQ adjustments to see there is no big spikes in the EQ which may damage your speakers.

sounds like one or more speakers are not hooked into the correct input in your receiver or on the speaker.
When the MCACC is finished with its first round of diagnostics, it will prompt to "Check," "Retry," or "Continue/Go Next." It is asking you if you would like to check what MCACC has found so far in your system (Front, Center, Surr., Sub, etc.).

You can navigate what would normally be on the OSD via the front panel since the front panel display is showing what is on the OSD one line at a time. Use the arrow keys and select key on the remote to navigate through line by line and enter sub menus to verify that what MCACC found is correct. If what you see is accurate, then use the return key to get out of the "Check" menu and select "Continue." If it is not correct, then use the return key to get out of the "Check" menu and then select "Retry." Further, if you do nothing during the "Check," "Retry," etc. prompt for about 10 seconds, MCACC will continue on its own.

From what you have explained, this sounds like normal behavior during MCACC and nothing is wrong with your receiver, but I will echo Foxbat's advice and say it would be much easier for you if you had the OSD connected so you can fully see what is going on.

Hope this explanation makes sense, and best of luck getting your system set-up. If all else fails, consult the manual.

Check the volume dial of the sub, try turning it down. This stalled MCACC for me when I had it at like 3/4ths.
