I'm interested in buying a VSX-97 and before I do I need to know if it accepts an external decoder through 5.1 inputs. I am also interested in the VSX-95, but from serching google I don't think this unit can do 5.1 passthrough. Could someone please confirm or deny that these receivers have this ability. Also if anyone know where I can get a pdf manual of them please point me at it.

Hello, I have a VSX-97 and seen the 95. Both have preamp in and outs on all channels. You can hook up a decoder though you'll need a volume knob and/or preamp built in. Somethng like the Pioneer SPD99.

The vsx-97 is the way to go if you have the choice.
