Pixar Chooses Christie Digital's D-Cinema Projector

Christie Digital's DigiPro(TM) Digital Cinema Projector Now Playing at Pixar Animation Studios

INTERNET WIRE -- Christie Digital Systems, a leader in DLP Cinema(TM) projection, announces today it has sold a DigiPro digital cinema projector and lamphouse with pedestal system to Pixar Animation Studios (Nasdaq: PIXR - news) of Emeryville, California, bringing the dream of a truly all-digital pipeline to reality.

DigiPro is being used in Pixar's main theater to review the D-Cinema master of Monsters, Inc., the November 2, 2001 animated film release from Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios. DigiPro will also display a host of other sources (including serial digital video, analog component video, and RGB) for presentations and creative reviews.

"We are extremely excited to master and present our films digitally, using the DigiPro," remarks Bill Kinder, Senior Manager of Editorial and Post Production at Pixar Animation Studios. "It will allow us greater control in creating the Digital Cinema master which, in turn, brings us closer to the goal of showing audiences our films in their truest form."

Disney/Pixar's 1999 release, Toy Story 2, was the first film in motion picture history to be entirely created, mastered and exhibited digitally. "We chose Christie Digital for a combination of factors: the reliability and quality of the DigiPro is one. Also, Christie Digital is clearly committed to strong support and service. Having worked with DLP Cinema prototypes previously, we understood the full breadth of this emerging technology. We now have a technical partner who understands our needs and who will be in it for the long run," says Kinder.

"We are thrilled to be part of Pixar's new Digital Cinema theatre. This award-winning studio now has the full power and capability to lead in new discoveries in the world of animation filmmaking," says Craig Sholder, Director of Business Development at Christie Digital Systems.

Housed in Pixar's 250-seat main theatre, DigiPro projects onto a 16-foot high by 39-foot wide Stewart Ultramatte screen with a screen-to-projector throw distance of 71 feet. DigiPro features 13000 ANSI lumens, a contrast ratio of over 1000:1 and complete compatibility with 720-line and 1080-line HDTV standards. Integrating the latest DLP Cinema(TM) technology, DigiPro is a powerful and reliable tool for creative digital filmmaking. About Christie Digital Systems
