I've got the newer ED monitor with a number of composite sources switched through a receiver (VCR, cable box, LD) and one component source (Denon DVD 1600, progressive player). As I wanted to ensure the most accurate picture settings possible for both component and composite sources, I added a composite cable from the DVD player to the receiver so I could switch the DVD's interlaced output as well and make all the necessary PQ changes on the composite input.

An interesting thing happened when I started adjusting picture size/position. When I output the over-scanning pattern from VE on the component input, I get no pixel cropping from the player (this is consistent with hometheaterhifi's shootout report of the Denon 1600's video performance). However, when I output the overscanning pattern on composite, there is definitely a bit of picture that is lost on the right side of the screen. It's less than the 5% mark, but it's definitely not symmetric on each side of the screen. On the left side of the test pattern, there are two tick marks visible past the "5%" marker, but there's only one mark on the right. Has anyone else noticed this effect? Could the pixel cropping performance be different between the component and composite outputs of the DVD player, or does this sound like an issue with the panel itself? I guess I need to track down another interlaced player to be sure...but I thought I'd ask. Thanks!

The Panny can save all picture settings (brightness, contrast, etc), so it would make sense that it can save picture size settings (cropping), too. Not 100% sure, since I haven't tried it, but it would make sense and be consistent with your findings.

The overscan is set on a per input and per signal basis. That is Compnent and Composite have separate settings and I'm not surprised they're as you describe. If you get into the service menus you can set it up however you like. I've set it to 2.5% on Component/525i and 5% for S-Video/525i.
