Pixels more evident with Dalite High Power screen vs. blank wall??

I'm currently projecting on a blank wall with my Sony 400Q LCD projector and am trying to figure out the size of screen I want to buy. I know I'll be buying the Dalite Model C with High Power material (since it appears to be one of the few pulldown screen materials that is as large as I desire and doesn't have wrinkle problems).

Anyway, I'm torn between a 119" diagonal 16:9 screen and a 133" diagonal 16:9 screen. Pixels aren't evident when projecting on my blank wall with a viewing distance 15' from the screen but I believe I'm getting close to the maximum size where pixels projected from the 400Q would begin appearing evident on certain sources.

I'm wondering if viewing with an actual screen, the Dalite Model C High Power, vs. a blank wall will make pixels more evident or if this is a non-issue. If pixels would be more evident with the screen, I would likely go for the 119" diagonal 16:9 screen. However, I really like the larger size of the 133" diagonal (at least on a blank wall) and don't want to give up the large size unless I have to.

If anyone has made the switch from projecting on a wall to a Dalite High Power screen I'd love to hear their opinion of if pixels are now more evident or not.

I would like to buy from a local dealer where I could buy the Dalite Model C 133" diagonal 16:9 High Power screen and if pixels were evident exchange it for the Dalite Model C 119" diagonal 16:9 High Power screen but the local dealers are charging hundreds of dollars more than I can get it mail order.

This may be ever so slightly off-topic, but interesting anyway.

When I first looked at projection surfaces for my Sharp LCD, I bought a Da-Lite tripod screen. Have to say I didn't know what type of material it was, the gain or anything else - just the size. (My pre-AVS screens forum period!)

As I was setting it up, the image spilled off the screen and on to the slightly grey wall directly next to it. I was alerted by cries from my audience that the wall gave a better picture than the screen! It was true... we all saw a huge improvement over the screen in reducing pixels and improving color and contrast.

I promptly sent it back to the store and got a refund.

Since then I have attempted to duplicate the wall scenario with a blackout curtain on a frame, and it works perfectly - at about a quarter the cost too.

I don't know if this helps you make a decision on your Da-Lite, but it's worth knowing that there are better quality alternatives out there for everything... if you happen to stumble up aginst them.

you are right about the blank wall. So far the best viewing experience using the LP340 was a blank white wall. I tried the blackout fabric but it was the same as a white wall. I got three yards of the blackout fabric, but i am trying to find a blackout fabric that is grey, so far no luck.

IF YOU SEE THE PIXELS YOU ARE REFLECTING A SHARPER IMAGE.

THE ONLY COMMENT ABOUT THE DA LITE SUPER IS THAT , IF YOU PLAN ON CEILING MOUNT YOU FIND YOURSELF A HUNTING TREE TOP SEAT. tHE DA LITE SUPER WORKS BEST WHEN MOUNTED ON YOUR CHEST UNDER YOUR CHIN.

UNLIKE MOST SCREENS, THIS IS A RETROREFLECTIVE SCREEN. IT WILL BE BRIGHTER AT 3 FEET HIGH ONLY IF YOU SEAT IT ON A TABLE. IF YOU DECIDE TO CEILING MOUNT, IT WILL BE BRIGHTESR AT 7 FEET HIGH. I CANNOT IMAGINE A PURCHASER OF THIS SCREEN FOR CEILING MOUNT WOULD EVER BE FULLY SATISFIED KNOWING THIS LITTLE QUIRK THAT DA-LITE SO CLEVERLY DISGUISES WITH ANGULAR MUMBO JUMBO.

DALITE FOREVER HAS LOST MY BUSINESS WITH THEIR DECEPTIVE INTRODUCTION OF THE HIGH POWER.

I have a Dalite Hi-Power 120" Diag with low-ceiling mounted CRT and have no complaints. I find with these screens that as long as the viewing angle is within about 18 deg. there is no hotspot. Very, very uniform surface. Also, you will not get less than a 1.0 gain no matter where you view it due to its embedded microbead substrate. I have seen lots of screens from Dalite with my setup, 1.1 matte, 1.3 Cinema Vision, 1.5 Video Spectra, 2.5 Glass Bead, and now the 2.8 HP. I am by far the most pleased with the High Power. Backscattered light problems are almost completely eliminated and brightness uniformity is amazing.

I have read all the grumblings about high gain screens with CRT and I just don't get it. I am a believer in the Dalite High Power!
