I recently got the dreaded message on my screen showing that its time to replace the bulb. I have gotten good use out of it, so I am not complaining. But since its my first time since I bought the PJ, I have some questions:

Note: It is a Toshiba MT-800 (Infocus 7205 basically)

1. When I search for a replacement bulb, I see some just the bulb and wiring, and some with the complete housing. The ones with the housing are significantly more $$. Whats the difference really? Can I use the original housing?

2. How hard are these to install?

3. Any reputable dealers I should contact? I have a call into AVS, but haven't heard back from them yet.

4. What is the typical warranty on these bulbs? Anywhere sell extended warranties?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

The part # of the replacement lamp you need is SP-LAMP-006 and it should come with a new housing. Only problem is that the price is a totally ridiculous $500.

Still, I wouldn't pay $250 to $300 for a hokey solution that does not come with the housing either.

I'd look on e-bay for a Infocus SP5700, SP7200, SP7205, SP7210, LP650 or a DP6500X which has died but whose lamp is relatively new, and see if you can get one for cheap.

If not, junk the projector and get a new one. You can get something better for under a grand.
