For a couple of years now I've had my right main speaker (an Energy eXL-16) sitting top of my sub placed next the the tv and thought everything was ok. The speaker is on top of a magazine rather than directly on top of the sub.
I recently got a different sub of about the same dimensions as the old one.
The other night I was watching Underworld at -17db, which is quite loud as it's recorded very "hot". About halfway thru the subway station sequence I saw out of the corner of my eye the right main do what looked like a swan dive off the top of the sub and onto the floor. I wasn't watching the speaker too closely but it really didn't look like it just slid off but almost literally jumped off.
The speaker didn't appear to be damaged, and I can get some soft squishy foam sheeting to place under it to keep it from falling off again.
My question is more as to whether having the righ main on top of the sub has some sort of bad acoustical effect?
Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated!
