I have a center channel (Def Tech CS 9060) that is 6" high. There is a front opening on my entertainment center that is 7" high, but has a 2" lip. This makes the opening 5" in total. I can go through the back and put the center channel in that opening, but then the top 1" and a little would be covered.

I'm wondering, if I have some of the front of my center channel covered, will that affect the speaker in any meaningful way? Will there be a decrease in volume or a reverb or anything? Is 1" just being picky?

also, the CS9060 has a top mounted woofer, and there is only a little more than an inch above the enclosure before I hit the underside of the top of the cabinet. Is there anything about that I should be concerned about?

The alternative is to mount the center channel above the TV, which would put it up pretty high...

Any advice?

My argument would be that if that lip doesn't obstruct any of the drivers on the speaker, it shouldn't be an issue.

Sound waves will definitely bounce off of that lip but how much that is noticeable in the sound, who knows. Probably not at all. I wouldn't worry about it.

I would be concerned about that top-firing woofer. With the CC placed inside the cabinet, and pushed up against the "lip", all of the bass is going to be re-directed out the back of the cabinet, essentially turning the cabinet into a ported speaker. Probably isn't going to sound very good, IMO.

I have the same issue with my center speaker 8"H, cabnit is 7.5" from bottom of lip to top of shelf, but the lip does not cover any of the woofers and I have the speaker pulled as far forward as it can without touching the cover. No issues with sound at all.
