Next week, I need to place my rear speakers in the ceiling (WAF compromise). Unfortunatly, the two best locations for the speakers share space with either the intake or outtake for my HVAC. I am using 8" monoprice in wall ceiling speakers. The speakers will have about 6" of clearance between the drywall and the duct. I could place them further back but they would go from 4' behind the listening position to 8'. Any recommendations?

I have a similar situation (WAF) and plan on building a in-ceiling speaker enclosure to get better acoustics and provide better soundproofing to upper floor. Also plan on soundproofing your ductwork.

Currently I am still framing. Anybody else have any ideas.

I'm having trouble understanding "6" clearance between the drywall and the duct"

As long as the speakers aren't sharing a joist cavity with the hvac, I'd say your fine.

Any other issues with sound produced by the speakers traveling through the ductwork would be addressed with the ductwork, not the speakers.

A picture's worth a thousand words
