My current TV is the KDL65W850A which is an excellent 1080p TV. I am thinking to get something even bigger. I have been using Sony TV for many years and it never fails me.

I have a choice to get internal pricing of LG. Once or twice a year, LG offers their internal employees deep discount of some of their “less than perfect” (open box, small scratch, etc) products with full warranty.

I was waiting for this but then I read about the burn-in issues of LG OLED TV. I called my friend who bought a LG 4K OLED 65-inch 2-3 years ago. He told me that his TV started this burn-in issue a few months ago and LG refused to help. He said he would never buy a LG again.

I know PQ of LG OLED is legendary. How about LG non-OLED TV? I am thinking of size of 75-inch, 85-inch.

In general, no HD TV looks good next to a UHD 4K display. It's worth it to upgrade. The only question becomes which one? OLED and LCDs are converging in the absence of a "better" technology, as each matures.

For burn-in, I'd suggest looking at Rting's test.

Conclusions: "...we don't expect most people who watch varied content without static areas to experience burn-in issues with an OLED TV."

Your burn-in concerns may be overblown.

Rtings also has a summary table you can filter to look at all the LG displays they've reviewed, to see which OLED or LCD display better meets your viewing needs.

LG non-OLED TVs have IPS panels, which produce wide viewing angles that decrease contrast. Unless you need wide angle, I suggest you stay with your tried and true Sony, and consider the X900F 75", 85". You won't get the blacks of OLEDs, but you will get very good color accuracy and motion, plus the brightness for HDR that's missing with OLED.

Ok. Thanks. I will see what are the LG internal offerings. If no good model nor deep discount, I will wait for Boxing Day. Quick research tells me that Sony X900F and X950G are excellent TV and comes with 85-inch.

I waited so long for 4K TV (Maybe 8K) because PQ of my Sony is good and More importantly, 4K sources are scarce in Canada.

Keep in mind, X950G 75", 85" have X-Wide Angle, while X900F 75", 85" do not.

How wide is this X-Wide Angle?
Not sure if I would need this new feature because I sit dead on center while I watch TV.

X900F is now $4500CAN while X950G is $5,700CAN. Now sure if I want to pay $1,200 more of this one feature. I am confident that prices will be even better in Boxing Day.

I've read 35 degrees and 1730:1 Native Contrast Ratio (Z9F similarity) for X950G 75", 85" X-Wide Angle, versus 15 degrees and 5089:1 Native Contrast Ratio for X900F.

If you sit dead center you have no need for X-Wide Angle, so just get the 900F and save a bunch of cash.

Only 15 degrees? I just checked my KDL65W850A and the color was still good at 45 degrees.

Not important to me but I am curious. Why so bad with these new TV?

Reviews usually mention when blacks start deteriorating, as was the case here. YMMV.

No VA panel looks good at 45°. There are many factors as shown below in Rtings measurements for off-angle performance of the Sony 900F.

Color Washout: 24°
Color Shift: 19°
Brightness Loss: 40°
Black Level Raise: 14°
Gamma Shift: 14°

For an IPS panel, such as the Sony 850G, off-angle viewing is better, but still not perfect like an old plasma.

Color Washout: 29°
Color Shift: 65°
Brightness Loss: 35°
Black Level Raise: 70°
Gamma Shift: 33°

FWIW rtings tested KDL65W850C in 2015. I'm guessing it's the same TV as KDL65W850A, "C" for Canada, "A" for US.

Amongst their findings: 4.2 rating for Viewing Angle; LCD Type: VA; Color Shift : 20 °; Brightness : 30 °; Black Level : 18 °.

Thanks. I did not know my TV performs so poorly.
The sole purpose of my TV is for videos, movies and TV shows. Is Sony X900F or X950G an overkill of my requirement? My requirement is 85-inch with great PQ.

Maybe not so poorly. Testing is done "in the lab", not normal viewing in people's homes. That said, you'll be thrilled with whatever you choose.

The X900F seems closer to your needs. VA panel without X-Wide Angle, exceptional contrast, accurate color, consistently good motion, at considerable saving.

The X950G 75" or 85" has additional tech with X-Wide Angle, eARC, Ultimate Processor, but at the expense of some contrast and of course more dollars.

As a side note, my current 65-inch sits on a TV stand Which is 50-inch wide. With a 85-inch TV, how wide of a TV stand should I consider? To my surprise, I just checked Best Buy, there is no much selection there for large TV. My TV stand is apparently already one of the wider one.

The trend is for stands to be as wide as the display. My TCL 55R615 needs 48". The legs are on backwards so it will fit in the space available.

This is what I thought but surprisingly, it is slim picking.
What size of TV stand (width) do you guys use?

For 85" low-slung TV stands, Wayfair has one called the Seaward ($600+). Amazon has one called Manhattan Comfort (about $300), and a couple of others. Check shipping.

Another option is to go to a lumber yard with or without a carpenter and have a sturdier one built, then painted or stained to match decor. Decide whether to use lockable caster wheels. Good luck, have fun.

Thanks. I was looking at the wrong place.

Based on the net weight of the TV, I should look for one with weight capacity of over 200 LB.

I watched an unbox video of one of these TV, it looked to me the TV legs are not adjustable. So, I would need a TV stand of at least 75 inches. Am I right? This will be a long table......
