FWIW, Discovery is having a sale and I just picked up the Blu-Ray version of Planet Earth for $49 plus shipping by using the coupon code COM10. I'm not sure how long that code will work.

I think the set retails for $99. Figured since I have a BD player, I might as well have something to pop in to wow the guests other than *cough* SM3.

discovery.com?

edit: ok, I am on shopping.discovery.com and I don't see a blu-ray version of Planet Earth, I see a blu-ray version of Blue Planet...

Looks like the DVD version is priced at $49.99, do you have a link to the BD version? (I would pick it up at that price)
Sorry, I suppose I could have been more clear. lol

Here's where I got it from. Your mileage may vary.

Isn't the "Discovery" version supposed to be somehow less than the "BBC Video" version?

CD

CD

The discovery version has Sigourney Weaver instead of Sir Richard Attenborough, afaik it is the same version that was aired on DHD.
Doesn't this thread belong in the BluRay Software section?

True...just a new narrative dubbed over the same footage.
Thanks Perpetual98, I've been waiting to buy this for a while. Looking forward to watching this on my PS3.
IIRC, the BBC version also has a few more minutes of un-cut footage per episode....

ah here we are
I think coolest part of this series is that crystal cave they go into.. that place is amazing. (stands out in my mind.. rare and amazing) its closed off to public and even scientists.. they got special access to get cameras in their and shoot this location.

Looks like someone sprinkled sugar all over the walls (all pure white) and giant shards of crystal (huge giant shards) jet out from the walls.

I got the BBC version of this.. and watched the discovery version on discovery hd..

i cant tell much difference... that bbc dude puts you to sleep more with his voice.. but i read reviewers say they like that narrator.. to each their own... if i did it again.. id buy this discovery version.

when i got this.. they didnt have blu ray and hd dvd discovery planet earth releases out yet.. so i was stuck with bbc as my only option in hi def.

You mean Sir DAVID Attenborough. This ain't no Jurassic Park!
Great find. Just placed an order myself. Thanks for sharing!
So is the US Discovery version inferior in a noticeable way? Is it really 1080i vs BBC's 1080p?
