I am planning on getting my first projector and screen in the next 6 months.

i have no idea on what projector and screen to get.

the room is 18' long 15' wide and 8' ceiling

the PJ's i am looking at are the Epson 8700 ,the JVC 250 or even the Epson 8350

the ceiling is white but i can paint it with a darker color if i have to

walls are painted with a medium dark brown

carpet is dark brown

room has 1 small window and 1 big window and i am thinking about installing black curtains to somewhat control light

will be watching mainly BLURAY movies and some sports like soccer and football

seating can be anywhere between and up to 17' from screen

questions

how big(screen) can i go?

throw distance?

what screen material and gain should i get?

hope someone can help

Thanks

Screen size is based on your seating distance, so you should narrow that down first. Generally, multiply your screen width X 1.5 for your seating distance. EX: 8' wide screen X 1.5 = 12' seating distance. And you have to make sure your projector is bright enough for your screen size. About 120" diagonal would be good for your room.
