I am a RPTV guy for cost to size reasons, but am helping a client , a very big client get a plasma, and haven't looked in a while since I bought my set last year, so a few questions.

When I looked other then price, many of the plasma's suffered from horrible analog, just like some of the RPTV's and at that time the Pioneer Elite was horrible, and there were only 2 that I saw that were any good at analog

1) The Fujitsu

2) The Hitachi which is a great deal Fujitsu also.

These were not only not bad, but quite good, but I only looked at the PE, the and the Panny and those 2 for HD, because I was really let down by many of the plasmas in HD. The Panny fell into that catagory, but it wasn't until aftre I shopped that I realized much of that brands play is because of cost and not quality.

I didn't see the Sharp in analog then, and can get one of those at wholesale, but no other brands other then the Panny, which he won't want. Is that brand pretty good in analog?

There was also a very expensive Runco 42 inch, but it was the only plasma that I have seen to date that did not suffer from lacking in black level, in fact it was quite good there, but I did not see that one in analog. Does anybody know if the new Runco's are now HD instead of last years ED, and also how they look in analog?

If you think Panny's or Pioneer Elites look good in analog then please don't respond because to me they are terrible, so we would just have different opinions and yours on others would most likely result in the same.

Thanks in advance for the help because I want to spear head this quickly

By analog, I assume you mean NTSC broadcasts?

Because generally speaking, if you go HD, then the NTSC looks worse... ED TV's would get you better NTSC picture quality, because there isn't nearly as much scaling going on to get the picture to native resolution compared to an HDTV...

As far as your viewing, what sources are you viewing when you're comparing picture quality, because that could have a major impact on why some picture looks much better than another unit...

Most RPTV'shave the same problem that dish, digital cable or anything other then the HDor pure digital thru an HD box channels with programmingmade for 16x9 just stinks. When I gotmy RPTV last year the Mitsubishi was by far the best in HD and DVD, but also the worst on analog sources. Ihave dish network, digital cable, and the only other source is DSS and my friend has that and we ended up buying the HItachi brand in RPTV because analog didn't look horrible.

The Pioneer elite was pretty bad in plasma analog, just as most of all the other brands were also, but last year when I was buying mine the Fujitsu and Hitachi were the only ones that looked really pretty good in analog. The plasma and RPTV brands that share both use the same processing for analog, it is just the way they display them that varies, so it seems if it is good onone then good on the other and visa versa and that is why the Hitachi looks goodin RPTV and the same in plasma andthe Pioneer Elite looks bad in analog on the RPTV and the same onthe plasma. The only reason people used to say the PE in RPTV was goodin analog I think, is that at the time the only other RPTV that was close inHD quality was the Mitsubishi, and it is the worst inthe industry, and so when you compare one to theother then the Pioneer Elite does become the lessor of evils. It wasn't source type of connections, but just that my wife watches allot of analog and Iwatch allot of sports much of which is still analog, so I ammorepickey then most becauseof the amount that I have to watch in SD.

Do you know if the Runco looks good in analog? One Ididn't mention was the Sony looked pretty good in analog, but they looked pretty weak in HD and DVD, so I eliminated them by virtue of not doing their core function, same with the Toshiba, although I only looked at those in RPTV's. Many people have never seen the HItachis' or fujitsus' and I have found htey are used to all of the others being horrible in analog, so they feel that since they are all bad, you just deal with it. Where Ilive there is a dealer that has the Sharp, Mitsubishi, Sony, Pioneer Elite and Fujitsu allnext to each other in a lineand when you putthem all on analog, people go wow, that is really 100% better, and so if you haven't seen either of those sets in analog, you may be in for a big surprise when youdo.

This is my biggest client I amhelping, so while I can get him the HItachi wholesale, and it does great in both with the plasma line, not the old display line, I want to make sure there isn't a great type we miss looking at. The most amazing thing to me about all these plasma's other then really high cost to size, and I still don't like the picture quality more then RPTVs at the better end, is that so many peoplewill buy those Panasonics because of their low cost, but they are so fricken bad at HD. They are so bad in quality Iwould not buy one of those if they sold it tome for 1/2 of what they go for because it still looks that bad. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
