Interesting blurb this morning on HDbeat.com. Hitachi plans on having 43% of the Japanese and 20% of the world market by April of 2008. Hitachi will up their capacity to 330,000 units per month. "This will start a price war". Every mfg is gearing up to dominate the market". "Consumers will be the big winners".

That's funny, I imagine the Pannasonic, Pioneer, and Fujitsu board rooms are all planning on owning 100% of the market.
I think that dominating would probably be more like the 20% world market Hitachi is shooting for. Domination is pretty much what Panasonic was contemplating when they dropped their prices so much over the past 18 months. If Hitachi plans to challenge Panasonic in a numbers game by offering good quality+lower prices+availability then you may indeed see company's like Pioneer, LG, Samsung, NEC, Panasonic and others, either engage the enemy or jump on another bandwagon like OLED. At this time we also see brands like Vizeo, Maxent and Dell eating up a portion of the market share. Possible mergers may be in the future in order to maintain market share and profit margins.
World domination is every factories wish but seeing as Hitachi, Toshiba, and 2 others is a joint venture, it will be interesting to watch them go against Panasonic and Fujitsu.
