Ok, so i play a lot of games (xbox 360, ps3 , etc) and i want to get an hdtv because i saw the detail at my friends house and its amazing. anyways i like to watch movies too. I heard things about how lcd is better for gaming and plasma is better for movies? i dunno if that is just sillyness or what but anyways what is the better tv , plasma or lcd? or is it that each of them have their advantages and disadvantages? if so can you please list them?

Well first off the title of this thread is "Screens" which means projection screens and not TVs.

Both LCDs and plasmas have their pros/cons. To name a few, LCDs can provide a brighter picture/brighter colors and will not have image retention. Plasma on the other hand will handle motion better and you won't see ghosting in fast motion games like you will see it on an LCD and less game lag.

In my opinion, if your main viewing is in a bright room an LCD COULD be a better choice for you. If you main viewing is in average lighting or at night the plasma may be a better choice. With a plasma you will get a uniform screen and no viewing angle issues. With an LCD you may not see viewing angle issues too much in the stores but when the room has low lighting there are major issues.

There's no quick and easy answer. It all depends on your personal preferences and the type of viewing environment you will be in most often.

oh okay, but in terms of using video game systems both will work fine? i heard something about burn in or something? and for watching movies both work fine? so it all depends on the lights.. am i correct?

I'm guessing you are new at this so do try the Crutchfield link above and I'm sure there are many comparisons here on AVS in the Flatpanel section (though people argue about which is better constantly
).

In newer plasmas burn in is highly unlikely. Ask in the plasma forums. Image retention can happen but it will go away after typical viewing. Your best bet is to do some research and then go view in stores. The plasmas will look dim next to the LCDs but keep in mind once you get the TV home the plasmas will be MUCH brighter than in the stores and I highly doubt you'll be watching those LCDs in the Vivid mode they are set in at the stores (or else you'll be seeing the eye doctor soon for your headaches).
