I have searched the forums, but have not have a definitive answer to this. I want to play MKV files from my PC's DVD drive. 720p files seem to play ok, but 1080p files get out of sync. Currently, my DVD drive has an EIDE interface attached to my motherboard. Would it be better to get an SATA drive or eternal drive that supports FireWire? Is it even worth it and has anyone had any luck plying MKVs from a DVD drive? From my SATA hard disks they play great. I have some MKV files that can fit on a DVD and would rather leave the space for other stuff, if possible. Thanks to all.

The bandwidth of EIDE is an order of magnitude higher than the MKV movie on the optical disk.

Look into decoding efficiency, DXVA, CPU/GPU capabilities...

I can play 1080P files off my hard disk just fine. Via my EIDE DVD drive the audio gets out of sync.
