Hello I have a PlayStation 3 connected to a SONY 32XBR9 via HDMI for video and to my BOSE LifeStyle 28 receiver for audio via optical. I have just Dolby Digital 5.1 selected as DTS sometimes gives me problems. I am experiencing audio gaps or basically sudden pauses for about 2 seconds then it clears up and plays perfectly. Why is this doing it? When i was using the composite red white cable for audio it never had a problem. Now that I am using optical sometimes the sound will skip for a second or two but then play clearly for a period of time?

Should I connect my optical directly from TV to Receiver instead of PS3 to receiver? My XBR9 says it supports Dolby Digital 5.1... but is it simulated or is it actually the real thing?

Set the playstation to decode the dd & DTS and send it linear PCM (I think that's right) I've heard it's better to let the ps3 do the decoding.

If you are after the best sound, you can't really get it through optical, a receiver with HDMI inputs is the way to go.
