This is a totally off topic thread, but I didn't know where else to post it. Moderator, please feel free to move or delete...

My question is this:

Is the Japanese currency gaining more value or is the U.S. dollor losing it's value? Or is it both???

I've been noticing that as I waited to purchase my projector that the YEN to USD is slowly but surely moving against me.

Case in point:

3/4/02

130 YEN per USD

4/14/02

128 YEN per USD

4/24/02

127 YEN per USD

5/1/02

126 YEN per USD

5/4/02

125 YEN per USD

In just 2 months time I've lost 5% of my purchasing power, does anyone think that the almighty USD is going to start climbing in the positive for me? Or do you feel it's going to continue climbing downward and I should just buy now...

Thanks.

If you think you can predict currency movements then you should quit your job now and become a trader. You will shortly be very rich.

Seriously, don't worry about where the $ to Yen relationship is going and just buy your gear.
I just wanted to get the general trend in movement. There is a group of us neighbors that are trying to make a larger group purchase to keep shipping prices down. Somewhere in between $16k-$20k in merchandise, but in waiting we lost $1k which would have more than covered any extra shipping charges. I guess we are losing this battle...

The general trend is definitely up. There is always upward movement in currency during the early to mid May. Expect this trend to continue to mid-July when it will level off and reverse. currency exchange rates generally stabilize on July 14th.

Seriously, if you can "get the general trend in the movement" of a currency you would be wasting your time trying to optimize your purchase price of $16 - $20K worth of video equipment. You could instead make several hundred million dollars by betting on the currency. If you do "get the general trend" be sure to let me know in a private message. I'll show you how we can both buy our own private islands with the proceeds and I'll throw in a great projector for you!
