Please Critique My Setup

I need a little help concerning the setup of a digital antenna. I'm currently

building a house and will use the DirecTV AT9 (Five LNB Ka/Ku Dish Antenna) dish

in conjunction with an OTA antenna installed in my attic (for backup to DTV local HD).

I plan on using a CM 4228 antenna with the CM 7777 pre-amp located in my attic.

The cable feed from the amp will then connect to a 6x8 multiswitch located in my

basement using diplexers for each multiswitch output port for distribution to my

multiple TV sets.

Each TV wall jack would then use a diplexer to split the TV/Sat feed to the

appropriate inputs.

Does this sound correct so far? Any ideas for improvements or missing items?

I also have two stereo receivers and was thinking of using an FM only antenna

located in the attic for this.

How would I feed this antenna signal into the SAT multiswitch? I'm thinking I

wouldn't want to use the pre-amp to combine the UHF and FM signals. So, would

I use some sort of combiner/coupler for the TV and FM feeds before connecting to

the SAT multiswitch?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Well, to begin with you cannot diplex TV and Directv Ka feeds on the same line and because of that there is no place to insert a TV feed on the WB68 as there was with the older Multiswitches where this would work.
You would be better off running another line for just the antenna.
You have no choice but to run seperate lines to each TV as HDTVFanAtic pointed out since you have an AT9 dish. Depending on the number of feeds you have, you might want a distribution amplifier to split the OTA to each set also.

As stated, drop the diplexers. With the new MPEG4 setup, treat the Sat & OTA as separate items. You could try this:
  • Run your preamp output cable to your distribution area. If need be, combine a VHF antenna with it for your FM...
  • From the distribution area, run 1 cable to every room(downstream). This cable carries all OTA(including FM) and possibly modulated channels...
  • From your multiswitch(possibly in the distribution area, but could be anywhere) run 1 cable to every room(2 for Tivo)...
  • The distribution area would typically have an amplified distribution panel...
  • [Option]Run a cable(upstream) from every room for feeds back into the system from modulators. This could be any modulated signal(Sat, DVD, etc.)

Just plug into the 'downstream' cable that has OTA & FM.

There are many variations of this scenario. You also should consider running CAT 6 to these locations also for a whole house network.

Good Luck!
