I currently own the Denon AVR5700. It is rated at 140 watts per channel an is THX ultra certified. I was thinking of adding a good out board amp for a smoother sound. Do you think this will make a noticable difference over my 5700? I am hoping to upgrade to a good pre amp later.

I am using the paradigm monitor series.

What amp would you recomend that doesn't cost over 3k?

THanks,

Mark

I have had a Denon 5700 for a few years now, Thanks AVS-Alan!

This is used in my second system.

The amp section is very good in the 5700,

I think you would be best served to find a local dealer that will let you demo an amp at home first.

Your speakers are not a difficult load to drive.

If at some time in the near future you plan to go to separates,

Then Yes, the amp purchase now would help, maybe only marginal.

The 5700 as a pre-amp will work.

As for amps, You can find some real deals on last years B&K models, Sherbourn amps are very nice, These can be found around

An amp is not going to do anything to give you a smoother sound as amps do very little to influence sound. Don't waste your money.
