I tried to install an 80gb IBM deskstar harddrive, but after putting the hard drive back in and turning it on all I get is please wait. The screen will occasionally flash green very quickly, but nothing else ever happens. I know the hard drive is good becasue I had been using it as my PC drive. I don't have a hard drive to copy from anymore so I've been trying to use a disk image.

I imaged the drive several times, both before and after a low level format using powermax with no changes. I used the correct image and made sure to patch the drive afterwards. I tried new IDE cables. I tried setting the jumpers to master, slave, and cable select. I unplugged all the cables from the back. I also tired to most of this on a 40gb maxtor drive I had with no luck. I have come to the conclusion that I managed to kill it, but maybe someone knows something I have yet to try. Thanks in advance.

Did you see that deskstar drives won't work? I think you should try to search on deskstar or deathstar.
If it is blinking green and rebooting, that is almost always a disk problem

rather than a general system problem. If you keep working on it with a

calm head, you should be able to figure out which step went wrong.

If you want, carefully list every step you took with the maxtor and someone

can comment if they see something amiss.
