I watched the LOTR III the other night, and after I switched from DVD to TV watching, no video signal could be found on DVI input (cable). It happened again the next night when I resumed watching the movie. Turn the TV off then back on, and DVI works fine.

My setup:

HLN507w

Motorola 5100? via DVI

HD931 DVD via component 2

Just curious if this has ever happened to anyone else before.

Thanks,

Tom

I assume this is the standard HDCP issue with the DVI outputs on cable boxes. Don't quote me on that, though, as I could be wrong :) Apparently, many cable companies have now enabled this on their service, so the box requires this handshake to succeed in order for one to get any video.

Based on what I recall from other threads, this handshake can be somewhat flakey and may require one to power cycle one or both of the devices in order to get it to be re-attempted. It's possible that if the TV is using a different input, it kills the DVI input, and hence this handshake has to be re-done when one wants to switch back.

This happens with my STB occassionally also. I think Slordak is right about it being an HDCP issue. I can fix it by just turning the cable box on and off (it's a lot faster than turning the TV on and off :))
