My 1998 Sony 35XBR48 will be in the nearest landfill after 3 1/2 years of use due to a bad picture tube. Now I need a 36 inch replacement that is hdtv ready.

I'm sure many of you have looked at the three sets I'm considering and have definite opinions.

Panasonic CT-36HX41

Toshiba 36hf71

should I also consider the Hitachi 36UDX10S even though it doesn't have a flat screen?

The reason I am not considering the Sony's is because my hometheater cabinet does not have the width for their cabinets. The Panasonic, Toshiba and Hitachi all have slim cabinets.

The Hitachi appears to be a bargain and can be found on the net for 100 bucks less than the Toshiba and 200 less than the Panasonic.

Thanks in advance for all of your advice.

I got rid of my entertainment center to fit the 38 inch RCA F-38310 16 X 9 set.

I was sick of seeing squeezed DVD wide screen images. good luck on your choice :)

i have the toshiba 36hfx71 hdtv-ready tv in my living room. i am very pleased with the picture quality. i cannot tell you how the toshiba compares with the other sets but the tv displays brilliant colors and a very nice black color. my living room has a lot of natural light and so an rptv just does not work in the room. also my family watches a lot of cable tv so a 36" direct view was the way to go. i would recommend the toshiba set based on my experience. cheers.
