I recently bought a PS4 Pro that does 4K and HDR. Since I moved half-way across the world and sold most of my worldly possessions (including my TV), I have to buy a new screen anyway.

I mostly watch TV shows that I download on the newgroups and watch them with Kodi/LibreELEC on a Raspi 3. I don't know if it can handle HDR. Most of the content I have is 1080p. I occasionally watch movies with the same setup. I'm not opposed to downloading higher resolution content but storage can become a bit of an issue and I'm not sure the Pi can decode it smoothly.

On the PS4, I enjoy playing RPG and adventure games. I suck at shooters so it's not my main focus but I do play some, some of the time.

I never watch live TV/the news.

I also have a Nintendo Wii that I used with a YpPbPr cable but I don't think TVs have this input nowadays.

Anyway. I live in Switzerland. Retail here is very different than in the US/Canada. There are no Slickdeals or Redflag Deals here and everything is expensive.

It's the slow season for retail right now and there are sales on: I can get the Panasonic FZ800 55" for 1299 CHF/USD (same exchange rate), or I can get an LG 55" B8 for 999 CHF/USD.

I know the Panasonic is amazing, every review raves about the calibration and the picture. But Is it 25% nicer? Money isn't too tight but I do have an empty apartment to furnish as well.

So what do you think? LG and spend the money saved on a quality Monster HDMI diamond coated cable*, or Panasonic?

* Just kidding, I'd invest the savings into NBA 2K19 micro-transactions like any sane person would.

GRAB the LG! You won't get much (maybe less :) ) for that 25%. The picture quality 95% the same and of course amazing on both! For gamers the LG is recommended, a bit brighter and better HDR, the built-in media plaer is quite good (HDR10 & DolbyVision). The WebOS is fast and easy to use, the magic remote is excellent!

What's the price for the 65B8 (around 1.500?)?

65" is too big, I don't live in a castle :D

I'm very worried about the durability of OLED though. If I'm paying that much for a TV, I'd expect it to last at least 5 years and still be in a condition that I can resell it when I upgrade. I'm not sure an OLED will last that long.

The ideal distance from an 55" tv for watching movies is around 2 meters and for 65" it's 2.5 meters. Watching my 55" from 2.2 meters and play from 1.5 meters. :) It's an excellent TV, LCD never again.

But all OLED TVs use the same LG Panel so these TVs will not be that far apart.

I would not buy a 2018 OLED except for the Sony because of motion issues. Plenty of people are not motion sensitive and will not have a problem with 2018 OLED TVs. Still OLED is a TV tech so you need to check it out in your home environment...make shure you can return the TV...Do some reading on the model you are going to buy so you will be prepared.

One can sit close but that way you see all sort of artifacts. Sitting further away will masks these artifacts somewhat. Don't sit to far away that way you will lose detail. For a 50 inch that is inbetween 2/3 meter distance.
