Hi Everyone,

I very recently have been upgrading my speakers and my receiver and also got a blu-ray player. I currently own a 50 inch 720p plasma.

My question is my viewing distance is approximately 12.5 feet. What size plasma 1080p screen should i get to accommodate this distance or what distance should I change my seating to get the full benefits of a 50 or a 58 inch plasma screen.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I sit about 12 feet from my 100 inch (front projection) screen, and it feels right to me. So, with 50 inch I would say 6 feet; 58 inch, 7 feet. Personal preference also plays a role, but these numbers will get you started.

For a 50" screen size you need to cut your viewing distance nearly in half (7') for full 1080p benefit.

Hardly anybody realizes how close they actually need to sit from their TV to get the benefit of 1080p. By the way at a 12.5 foot viewing distance you are not even getting the full benefit of 720p and no reason to up-grade to a 1080p TV if you are not going to move closer. On a 50" screen (fed 1080p source) you do not even start to see any benefit until you are with in 9 feet.
