Please Help me chose a receiver (and follow up questions)

I am new to the forum and I am currently looking at the Pioneer ELITE LX 701 and the VSX 503. Both units are at the same price point in the D.C. area but the 701 seems to have the better Amp. I called Pioneer and they said both amps would be equal in heat output but they could not explain how! I currently have a 11 year old Pioneer ELITE VSX 82TXS that is in a rack system with 1" space above the unit-NEVER A HEAT RELATED PROBLEM. I thought that the 701 would run cooler than my old unit and cooler than the 503-any thoughts on that?

I plan on a 5.1.2 setup so either unit would fit the bill. I will run a OLED C8 77" and a DISH HOPPER 3 feed. I should also say that the sides and back of the rack system are open to air flow.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice.

SC-LX701 or VSX-LX504 ??

Both receivers are at the same price point now-which one would you buy and why?
@purdueboiler I own neither, but here are some basics, hope it helps with your decision?

the 701 is obviously much older with only 5 hdcp 2.2 inputs, not sure how much longer they will provide firmware upgrades, it does have a little more power, class D amps but has the superior mcacc pro room correction solution.

The lx503 got great reviews for power and phono stage, I imagine the lx504 is probably just as good. I believe it has the new Onkyo hdmi board, has much better dacs but sadly they only updated it to mcacc advanced, which has a universal crossover. At least the standing wave control is supposed to be pretty decent.

I like the lx504 for features, being future proof (for now) and the fact that the lx503 had such great reviews.
Poneer Eli SC-LX7 VS Pioneer Elite SC-LX701

Does anyone know if the 704 is that much better than the 701?
Pioneer Elite SC-LX704

Does anyone know when these units will show up in the marketplace? Which major chain would be first in line for a demo unit?

I know the August product announcement stated that both new models were expected to start shipping early October. I haven't seen either model in stock yet.

Best Buy said it's a special order item!

I went to my Rockville Pike, Maryland Best Buy and the Magnolia manager said they had no plans to bring the 704 on their floor-"you have to special order it". Very strange?
I know the lx503 had good power numbers with all channels driven, not sure about the lx504? But what is this marketing BS on their top of the line gear with 1 channel driven?

....uniquely designed Class D amplifier that supports powerful, simultaneous multi-channel amplification with LX904/704 - 140W x 11ch (LX904)* and 135W x 9ch (LX704)* with *8 ohms, 1kHz, THD 0.08 %, 1ch Driven FTC

I do like that they brought back mcacc pro, hope it can compete with the x3600 and xt32?

Best buy is weird about a lot of things. The main 2 I noticed are Pioneer, they used to carry a full line up until 2.5-3 years ago. Now they've got practically nothing in store. They may have 1 model at Magnolia stores, but they stock and ship quickly from their online store.

Seagate Hard drives. 2 years ago Seagate was their main go to hard drive. now all they have in store is Western Digital.

Not trying to start a receiver or HD holy war of which is best, but I am wondering how they pick what goes into the store, and why does the brand(s) they carry push out other brands.

Is it a Best Buy thing, like seeing which manufacturer will pay them the most for shelf space, or is it the manufacturer telling BB if you carry our brand you may not have competitor brand x on your shelves in store.

Anyone else noticed this? Anyone know the reasons why?

I'm in Utah, and BB online shows the SC-LX704 on display and in stock in Park City, ij stock but not on display at their Jordan Landing Magnolia Store.

Bestbuy.com shows I can order the 704 or 904 and have it shipped to my local store for pick up on 10/31.

I called Pioneer and they said the 704 & 904 were European models and they had nothing on them yet and that is why their web page does not show them! They did not have any idea when they would become an "official" US model?

Maybe the person you spoke with should check with Best Buy about the release date...
Looks like all versions now have the same model number in the USA and EU. Someone got their info wrong, my local Sacramento (Natomas) best buy shows them available for pickup today.
"Order" is not "on display"

My Maryland store said the same thing BUT as I pointed out in my original post, they have no plans to DISPLAY these top of the line items. This is in an area outside of DC that has the number 1,4,10, and 17th richest counties in the US-something wrong with that business model.:(

Yeah I hear you. I can see the 904 only being shown at a Magnolia store but the 704 is a mid tier receiver. Given the failed Sound United merger I'm sure it impacted the marketing of their products. I'm glad to see it's finally being released. However, I have an SC-LX801 and don't really see a reason to upgrade right now.

Just get one from Amazon. If you don't like it, you can return it to the Kohls at Rio. And Kohls will give you a 25% off coupon.

Best Buy now has one in the DC region but not yet on display. Pioneer Corp still has no information or knowledge of this product!:)
Bestbuy in Oceanside CA has one on display.
