I only need an inexpensive, but dependable DVD recorder that I can use to transfer programs from my Ultimate TV hard drive so I can watch them on other DVD players in my house.

Here are the choices I've narrowed it down to anf the lowest price I could find:

Pioneer DVR-310-S

or

CyberHome CH-DVR 1500

Some people swear by Brand names, others swear at them.

I have a few pieces of Pioneer gear and they have been very reliable. I have no experience with CyberHome. So I vote Pioneer.

Just as an aside, I DO have a Sony DVR GX7, Philips DVDR75 and DVDR985, and a Panasonic DMRE20. So far the Sony and the Panny have been bulletproof and the Philips have been flaky, unreliable, but I like the feature set and I have all these blank DVD+Rs so I keep one areound.

Cyberhome? Unknown quantities have historically been disappointing as far as DVDR's go. Look for out-of-box Pannys at BB. My local one has HS2's for $350 and E30's for $220. My E30 has yet to make a coaster since I got it in February.
