First off I know very little about what makes one TV better than another.  I currently have a 52” Samsung LN52A650 that I purchased back in 2008 I believe and I paid a pretty penny for it at the time.  I am wanting to get a larger screen something in the 65” or 70” range but I am curious as to how a Vizio E701i-A3 or a Sharp LC-70LE650 would compare to my 5 year old Samsung.  I would assume that the technology in either of these new boxes would be superior to that in my Samsung but the maybe not made as well?  How would the picture in these televisions compare to my Samsung? Is it even worth making the move from my old TV to one of these new ones?

Additional information:

I don’t really use all of the “extras” like apps but the kids do play PS3 on it.

We sit roughly 11 – 12 feet away from the TV.

Most sever viewing angle is roughly 40 degrees.

Budget: Roughly $2,000

I made a thread that would interest you.

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1505230/has-tv-technology-really-not-gotten-any-better-in-5-years-2008-samsung-a650-vs-2013-lg-n5400-thread#post_24079732

Basically keep your Samsung, it's a solid 3000:1 contrast VA panel.

Last year, the best rated LCD was the Sony W900A & it had a contrast of close to 4000:1.

If you want any sort of large improvement in picture quality from a LCD, your best bet is to buy a full array local dimming set.

The buzz is around Vizio this year as they will be releasing those sets at affordable prices this year.

I'm cut & pasting my post from another thread

People are excited about Vizio's new line, they are going to be both affordable & high quality.

All are full array local dimming, which will automatically be better than your Samsung edge lit TV you had.

E series has 16 dimming zones.

M series has 32 dimming zones.

P series has 64 dimming zones.

The E series is out now & the M & P will be released shortly.

Thanks wtfer.  I stumbled on that thread after I posted my question which is what prompted my second post.  Looks like I will be waiting on the 2014 Vizio’s to hit the market.  I really want to get a larger screen but not at the expense of picture quality. Can you tell me in layman’s terms what the difference is between the M and P series besides the dimming zones.  Also you might tell me how big of a deal the extra dimming zones are.

Thanks again for your expertise and insight!
