Ok I got my Seleco HT250 and ive hooked it up and am for the time being shooting it on a flat white wall. Last night I watched Vertical Limit and the night before The Great Escape(part of it) on DVD and at times am getting an unwatchable picture. In Verical Limit there are a bunch of scenes in a snow cave. When anything in the cave came on it looked like someone had turned on a solorization special effect button on a camcorder. Im hoping you know what I mean by that. I got a similar thing in the green fields in the Great Escape. Actually I get it on any dark scene.Im freaking out alittle considering the cost of this thing. Can anyone explain what is going on? Is this the rainbow effect? I thought I knew what that was but maybe I dont. Please anyone that can help me out with this it would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what the "solarization special effect" on a camcorder is, but the rainbow artifact is a red/green/blue blob or streak that shows up in scenes with a lot of contrast, usually dark scenes with intermittent white or light spots. The shape of the blob or streak often depends on what it is the picture. For example, if there is a long streak of light on a dark background, you will usally see a long rainbow streak at the edge of the streak of light. If there is a circular light or white spot, the rainbow will appear at the edge of the spot and will be somewhat round or like three dots, one red, one green, one blue.

Jeff,

I don't know what the solarization effect is. Could you go into specific detail (the more detail, the better)? So, you are using s-video exclusively? The rainbow effect is a brief, strobing effect. On most projectors it is visible only very briefly. I think Tommyboy2 may have complained about what you are seeing. Perhaps you have old software? I really would like to help, but I don't own a Seleco. Try to describe the effect you are seeing as explicitly as you can.

Thanks for responding Larry. I have found out that it is a defective projector and its been sent back to Seleco. Solorization is an effect like you might see on a 60's Jimi Hendrix poster. Colors are opposite of what the are or like haloing kind of.
