I have recently been having a problem where my 6PG Xtra will detect the 720p signal and switch to the memory input but show squiggly lines all across the screen horizontally. To correct this I have to turn off the projector for a couple seconds and turn it back on to have it sync properly. What could be the cause of this?

This only happens at 720p. 1080i works fine. I have a sony hd receiver and whenever I watch 1080i programming or 480p programming the pj switches fine between memory inputs and shows the picture. Only when I switch to the one channel that is 720p do I get the pj to mess up. Again it does switch to the 720p memory but does not display the picture only a distorted picture. You think some electonics may be failing in the pj?

Check your *image* centering within the raster when it switches to 720p. I get some squirrelyness when the image is off center. [email protected] is certainly in range for a 6PG.

Well I created a new memory from an existing 1080i location and tweaking it for 720p. Creating it from scratch is a pain in the butt.

When I turn on the pj and the 720p source all is well. It's just when I switch from a 1080i to 720p that things get weird.

One reason the NEC does this is exactly that. Using an existing location to create another one. While a pain in the butt, THE best way is to create each entry from scratch. Also make sure any unused entries have been deleted.

You can create a new one, name it, and then copy some of the settings from another source so you don't have to do all of the settings from scratch. Some things will probably be off, like alignment, but convergence settings should copy over.

Signal entry in the adjust menu has a DATA COPY as well as the SOURCE COPY. Create a new entry and then try a DATA COPY. Maybe that will work.

I will try to create a 720p setup from scratch and then save it unconverged then do a data copy from another 720p memory location to copy over the perfect convergence data.

Ok so I created a new entry from scratch, both a 480p entry and a new 720p entry. Now when I switch from 480p sources to 720p sources it syncs fine. When I switch from 1080i to 720p it does not sync. My worksround now is to switch channels to a 480i source then to the ABC at 720p in order to get the pj to sync. I cannot switch channels directly from say cbs to abc as it will not sync 720p.

Just a thought, you don't think that it could be the Sony HD box that could be causing the problem do you. Maybe it does something when switching from 1080i to 720p that throws the projector off. Maybe its an interlace thing as it works alright going rom 480p to 720p.

I was thinking that but check this scenario out. I also have a switcher that switches between my 720p htpc and my hd receiver. It happens that when I turn off the receiver that had a picture going 1080i to make the switcher go to the htpc at 720p it does not sync. When I run the receiver at 480p then turn it off and switch to the htpc at 720p it works. When I run 480p on the receiver then go to a 720p channel it also works. When I run 1080i on the receiver and then go to a 720p channel it does not sync. When I turn off the pj and the receiver and turn them both on at 720p it works. When I turn on my htpc and the pj at 720p it also works.

So could it be that the receiver is sending a funky 1080i signal that throws off the pj only when it sees a 720p signal afterwards. That is a little out there as a theory but what else could be happening?
