Please Help : Possible Samsung TV Bug - not switching back to the original sound mode per HDMI input after playing game

I encountered this issue on 2 Samsung TVs (2020 & 2021) so I am posting in this LCD TV forum.

My setup :
Samsung QN90A TV and Q900A Soundbar.
HDMI_1 : Fire TV , Movie picture mode and Adaptive Sound Mode
HDMI_2 : Nintendo Switch , Game picture mode and Game Sound Mode

When switching to HDMI_2 Nintendo, the TV will change both the picture and sound mode to "Game" mode. This is fine.
Problem : after switching back to HDMI_1 Fire_TV, picture mode is back to "Movie" which is good. But the sound mode is still in "Game" not changing back to "Adaptive" per this HDMI input.
This problem also happens when I use the TV built-in apps.

Anyone has any idea? Your insight is highly appreciated.

I'm having the exact same issue while connected to a Samsung A650 series sound bar.

  • Change sound mode to 'surround sound' for my Nvidia Shield TV.
  • Change input to PS5 or XBSX
  • Observe sound mode is reverted to 'Game' mode for all inputs.
I am having the exact same issue, albeit with my Gaming PC/Google TV. So frustrating as I'm trying to do away with the Samsung TV and Samsung Soundbar remotes and just use the Google TV remote, and this is the only thing I have to keep pulling the tv or soundbar remote out for (changing the sound mode back to Adaptive or Surround).... Driving me crazy

Dang yes I haven't found a fix so far.

Are you using ARC / eARC?
You could try this,
I have this issue too, sound doesn’t switch back from game when on TV Freesat or TV apps
Sounds like a typical CEC issue. As mentioned above, try the Lindy CEC-less adapter. For some, it blocks the CEC calls but still allows one to use ARC. For others, it doesn't. Can't hurt to try.

If it is CEC, it's not a bug. That just how CEC behaves and there aren't any firmware fixes that I am aware of. It's usually due to how CEC is being implemented by either the panel or another device connected to it.
Same issue here with a q95b and q800b soundbar connected with wifi (to avoid the anynet+ hdmi cc audio problem with certain apps). Any fix yet?
Same problem here. My setup is Samsung Q70B via eARC to Soundbar Samsung Q935B, PS5 to TVs HDMI. Switching to PS%, video and audio switch to game mode. Switching back to TV or streaming apps, video switches back to last setting, audio remains in game mode. WhatI found out so far: it's NOT an issue of the connected soundbar. Same happens when i change audio output to TV speakers only. TV and Streaming > TV sound mode "adaptive". Turning on PS5 > TV sound mode switches to "game". Switch back to TV/Streaming > sound mode still "game". Already had a conversation with Samsung support, they were able to reproduce the problem in their lab and agree that this must be a software issue on Samsung TV. Since I find posts about this issue starting from 2020 up to 2023, I'm kind of hopeless....
